Nightingale Here is a list of some of our repertoire. See sample programmes at the foot of the page. Bozza - Trois Pieces Pour Une Musique de Nuit This is a charming work for quartet (no French Horn). Lyrical and witty in turn, it's a typically Gallic offering. Farkas - Antique Hungarian Dances A lively set of short pieces, with a real Eastern European flavour. Guaranteed to get your feet tapping! The Shoulder Blade Dance was performed by the menfolk! Granados (arr McAlister) - A La Cubana This atmospheric piece is redolent of Cuban cigars and lazy, hot days. Greaves - Beethoven's Fifth Bosssa Nova An irreverent
and humorous whizz through through this famous symphony, with a
distinctly Ibert - Trois Pieces Breves A set of
miniatures which uses the instruments in haunting textures. Tuneful
and lively, with Joplin (arr Sacci) - The Entertainer A clever and effective arrangement of this well known piano rag Mozart (ed Taylor) -Divertimento in B flat major, k439b One of the many pieces Mozart wrote under the "Harmoniemusik" heading - music for outside entertainment, or for background music at parties or dinners. Originally scored for 3 basset horns (a hybrid between a normal clarinet and a bass clarinet, little used today), it works equally well for flute, clarinet and bassoon. Mozart (arr McDonough) - Gran Partita in Bb, k361 Originally written for 13 wind instruments, this is a master work of the highest quality. Many of the movements are dances, whilst the slow movements are poignant and moving. This is a sonorous arrangement for five wind, which seems to lose little of the original darkness of tone and fullness of sound of the original scoring. Tchaikovsky (arr Kennedy) - music from "Nutcracker" Lively and well known tunes from this ballet, a Christmas favourite. Sullivan (arr Jones) - Mikado Most people will recognise this medley of tunes from one of Gilbert and Sullivan's favourite operettas. It includes "A Wandering Minstrel" and "Three Little Maids from School". Folk Songs (arr Mayhew) These include well known tunes such as Bobby Shaftoe and Greensleeves, as well as our signature tune - The Sweet Nightingale The Lighter Side A unique set of arrangements especially written for this group by our talented horn player, Marian. Includes Bare Necessities; When You Wish Upon A Star; Can Can; Get Me To The Church On Time.

A la Cubana (In Cuban style) Mozart's sublime genius, with deceptive simplicity and underlying emotional depth. Our programme alternates between this, and the sultry and exotic rhythms and harmonies of music redolent of Cuba and Spain Example of light programme, with readings:
